Santorum: Annul all same-sex marriages

It’s been well-established that Rick Santorum is a piece of shit, so I was surprised this morning to watch this new MSNBC interview in which he lays out the case for federal marriage equality:

Marriage has to be one thing for everybody. You can’t have 50 different marriage laws in this country. You have to have one marriage law. You can’t go to one state and be married and another state and not be married, because then you move to that state and what? How do you get divorced, if you get separated?

Exactly. Exactly.

But then he kept talking.

Chuck Todd: What would you do with same-sex couples who got married? Would you make them get divorced?

Santorum: Well, their marriage would be invalid. […] If the Constitution says “marriage is this,” then people who are not — whose marriage is not consistent with the Constitution…[shrug]

So that’s your answer to my marriage, and the tens of thousands of other marriages in this country? A shrug?

Also, Chuck Todd: You let him get away with a non-answer and a shoulder roll. Awesome interviewing skills.

If anyone knows Rick Santorum’s aunt, please warn her that Rick has deeply intimate feelings for her, in his words the equivalent to what I have for Mike.

Marriage is a special union in our society. It’s a special relationship. I can be your friend. And that’s a very good and important relationship. Friendship’s a great and important relationship for society. The love I have for my aunt is a very important relationship.

See for yourself. Marriage stuff begins at 12:01.
